Remembrance and Honor of Dr. Tina Strobos, M.D.
The staff and Board of Directors of Human Development
Services of Westchester dedicate this inaugural issue of our
E-Newsletter to the memory of Tina Strobos, MD, who passed away on
February 27, 2012. Tina was instrumental in guiding the founding
Board of Futura House, which established in 1968 a residence for
persons leaving state psychiatric hospitals. Tina continued
supporting the work of the agency and those whom it served for many
years and in many ways right up to the present. She was a
consummate humanitarian, stalwart in her character and gentle in her
touch. It was a privilege to know such a woman. We shall miss her.

Blanca Lopez, HDSW Neighborhood Preservation Company Director,
answers your questions regarding a variety of housing-related issues
and funding options. Look for her column in every issue.
What is the role of a Housing Counselor?
Do you want advice on buying a home, renting, default, foreclosure
avoidance, credit issues or reverse mortgages? Speaking to a
Housing Counselor may help. A Housing Counselor is someone who can
help you through the process of working to resolve your housing
question or problem. During a housing counseling session, the
Housing Counselor will educate and guide you by reviewing the
information provided, help you explore options, develop a budget,
and create an action plan. Counselors will also help you assess
your individual financial situation and help you improve your credit
to ensure that you are well-prepared for homeownership. In
addition, Housing Counselors can also help you if you face financial
difficulties and have problems paying your mortgage on time. While
counselors will do all that they can to assist you, the process is a
two-way street with the client as a critical partner in the
process.
