Human Development Services of Westchester (HDSW) is the product of the 1999 merge of Futura House Foundation and Human Development Services of Port Chester.
Futura House, a non-profit corporation, was founded in 1968 by the Women's Conference, a group of concerned members of the Westchester Ethical Humanist Society, who established housing for nine women who were recovering from mental illness. Human Development Services of Port Chester was organized in 1979 by Rev. Henry Hobbs as a Neighborhood Preservation Company to provide housing for low-income residents of Port Chester, and later provided housing for persons recovering from mental illness.
HDSW offers the following: low-income housing preservation and development, residential services, a clubhouse program (HOPE House), and case management services.

Every Year, Human Development Services of Westchester serves over 1,000 men, women and families to successfully recover from homelessness, mental illness, and substance abuse. Most of our members and "graduates" have resumed productive lives and a great many have maintained contact with each other and with our staff. They return to visit and to celebrate agency events. Some have gone on to become staff members, offering their compassion and expertise to our clients.

As a private, non-profit 501 [c] (3) agency, HDSW is licensed by, and receives funding from the NY State Office of Mental Health and is also partially funded by the NY State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Westchester County, private foundations and individual contributors.
